Trans Oman

10/ 10/ 2010 - 12/ 10/ 2010

Aimed to cater to the growth and development of the country’s logistics industry, the TransOman is organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport and Communications and supported by other key industry players. The event will be held from October 10 - 12, 2010 at the Oman International Exhibition Centre.

TransOman is the Sultanate’s premier event providing access to cutting edge solutions, services and infrastructure especially designed for the transport, shipping, aviation and logistics industry. The event will allow logistics and transport organisations to further promote industry principles and highlight the country’s growth potential to attract investments.

This year’s TransOman exhibition, will attract international interest from key logistics and transport hubs such as the US, Middle East, Europe, Asia and the Sultanate of Oman.

* On the Road - The Sultanate has made ambitious investments in its road travel network in recent years and is now making headway in terms of intermodal freight transport and dual carriageways. In June 2009, the Government signed 17 contracts worth OR84.8m (US$220.3m) for future road development projects; the largest of these is the Southern Batinah Expressway, which will extend 275 km from Muscat to Oman’s northern border with the UAE, covering the length of the Batinah region, which has become an important industrial centre over the past five years.
* Rail Network - With the country’s Al Batinah Railway development initially linking the industrial centre in Sohar with Barka, just north of Muscat, the Sultanate of Oman is optimistic of its potential of increasing intermodal cargo transport options particularly in the Sohar region. With these links, Oman will likely play a key role in the inter-Gulf Cooperation Council rail network. A proposed OR5.39 billion (US$14 billion), 2000-km project that could link the six member states as soon as 2016.
* In the Air - Muscat International Airport has seen an unprecedented jump in traffic in recent year0s, welcoming over 1.64m passengers in 2008. In an effort to meet projected demand in the coming decade, the Sultanate of Oman is expanding and building six more airports in Muscat, Salalah, Sohar, Ras Al Hadd, Al Duqm and Al Adam. All of these airports are set to be completed by 2012.
* Ports – Positioned at the heart of major trade routes between Asia, East Africa and the Middle East, the Sultanate’s major industrial ports at Sohar and Salalah are strategically located to deliver goods to the world’s population. In recent years, the majority of state port investments have been directed at Sohar and Salalah, where the country’s two major ports are located. Oman’s Port Services Corporation is now in the process of building two central ports and is also considering adding new ports along the coast. The OR 693m (US$1.8 billion) port and dry dock at Al Duqm is set to become an industrial centre, while a new port in Khasab, the local capital of the Musandam region, is also set to help ease the movement of people and encourage tourism and local trade.

In February 2010, the Sultanate’s first ultra-modern passenger cruise terminal, built at a cost of RO2.7m was opened at Port Sultan Qaboos (PSQ). The opening of this terminal is a huge gain for the country’s tourism industry.
